Transport Phenomena: Chemical Processes
Description
This book is about mathematical modeling de various transport phenomena processes related to chemical engineering mainly et it is also suitable pour other engineering branches. This book provides le fundamentals de formulating le spatio-temporal governing equations such as Continuity equation, Navier-Stokes equation, convection-conduction-heat generation equation et convection-diffusion-reaction equation using a control volume method et appropriate constitutive relationship such as Newton's law de viscosity, Fourier's law de heat conduction et Fick's law de diffusion. Various properties de a fluid/medium such as density, viscosity, thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity figure en le resultant governing equations. Diffusivity concept is explained pour a solute-solvent system. It is demonstrated how le non-dimensional numbers such as Reynolds number, Nusselt number, Prandtl Number, Sherwood number, Schmidt number are obtained through non-dimensionalizing le governing equations. It is followed by application de these equations to certain simple processes et obtaining analytical solutions to velocity, temperature et concentration profiles. Le problems are treated as initial et boundary value problems (IBVP). Hence there is good amount de applied mathematics involved. Techniques such as separation de variables method et similarity variable transformation are introduced. All le examples are presented avec a detailed derivation so that le reader may cross-check le solution avec their own method. Un few examples are presented that have a coupling among le above three phenomena de momentum, heat et solute (mass) transfer. For example viscous heating during a flow de viscous fluid has a coupling de momentum transfer et heat transfer. This book motivates le reader pour self learning by practicing engineers or scientists as well as a reference book pour undergraduate et graduate courses.
